Impact Evenings

Impact Evenings is a bi-monthly Friday evening get-together with social impact practitioners unpacking what drives – and disrupts – impact.

Each session takes on one angle on impact work and opens it up.

Maybe it’s about how grants get written and what that does to the work on the ground. Maybe it's about how we measure what's invisible. Or maybe it's something no one's talking about yet.

The topic and format shifts but the spirit stays the same: honest, practical exchange between people doing impact work in different contexts.

What to expect

A specific angle on impact work – funding, measuring, making, or something else entirely – examined through the eyes of a practitioner who's knee deep in it.

Formats that vary: fireside chat, facilitated discussion, or something more hands-on. Always a conversation, never a lecture.

A guest practitioner who shapes the session. They bring the lens; the room brings the conversation.

Something concrete to take back – an idea, a reframe, or an approach worth trying.

People from across sectors, all doing impact work in different contexts.

Who is this for?

This is for you if you:

  • are engaged in impact work, whether you're in the nonprofit, public, or private sector

  • are curious about how others are approaching complex problems and shifting systems

  • are keen to show up ready to engage, not just observe

  • want to hear from people actively doing the work in different contexts

What role do physical third spaces play in building active communities?

This year, Common Ground is making a case: physical, practitioner-led third spaces are essential infrastructure for active communities.

Not third spaces in general, but ones where a skilled practitioner is deliberately stewarding resources and designing interventions for community to form and grow.

We're opening the series with this question through a lightly structured Unconference format.

Whether you're a practitioner from an impact hub, a community builder building community or someone in the world of impact, come with a perspective or a question — and your dinner!

SESSION DETAILS
  • 📅 Date: 29 May 2026 (Fri)

  • Time: 7pm - 9pm

  • 📍 Location: Common Ground Civic Centre (21 Bedok North Street 1, Singapore 469659)

ABOUT OUR COMMITMENT FEES

In our other community programmes, we collect a small commitment fee at $10 (excl. GST) to cover refreshments, materials, and to keep the sessions running smoothly.

For Impact Evenings, we've priced the commitment fee at $20 (excl. GST). The difference goes directly to our guest speakers and facilitators who help make this series possible, as a small token of appreciation for their time and effort. We think that's worth it, and we hope you do too :)

What's standing between good impact work and a good impact story?

This session, we're making a case: the stories funders don't usually fund are often the ones that matter most — and the gap isn't a skills problem, it's a structural one.

Co-hosted with Green Nudge, we're digging into what it actually takes to tell a good impact story — starting with resourcing and data collection, crucial primary steps long before you actually get to the telling.

Whether you're a practitioner, a comms lead, or a funder looking for ways to better support your fundees — come with a real example from your own work. And your dinner!

ABOUT OUR CO-HOST

We're co-hosting with Green Nudge because they've lived this exact problem – not just talked about it.

After many years of simply responding to funder needs, they've now learnt to charge for communication work, built a real practice around it, and pushed back when clients expected it for free.

That's exactly why they're the right partner for this session.
