Project Reflections

Project learnings, suggestions & considerations

Based on our experience to Reimagine Wellbeing in the Workplace, this was what we discovered:

  • Designers want to learn from each other as peers and appreciate the cross-section interactions available between junior and senior roles outside of their own organisations.

  • Despite mental health being the context for the project, the coaching support by the 5-month programme’s mental health coach was not fully utilised by the project teams, even though all teams generally found it useful to talk to one. Contrastingly, each project team fully utilised their support hours with their individual design coach and with Studio Dojo. A big reflection Common Ground and Studio Dojo had after the programme was whether this difference could have been due to the naming and framing of the support offering, scheduling challenges, or priorities.

Tips & tricks to get you started

If you’re looking to embark on your own initiatives in your own organisation, we share with you our tips and tricks based on what we’ve learnt from this entire process.

1. Don't 'boil the ocean'! It may be very tempting to want to immediately solve everything all at the same time! But if we’re not careful, it might lead to a state of overwhelm.

  • Our suggestion: Decide on a small group of people to design a solution for and focus on fully understanding what their needs are.

2. Be intentional with your team! Team formation is of utmost importance, though unpredictable. When bringing a team of people who are working together for the first time, the element of care and conviction for the same cause will be a useful alignment tool for the team.

  • Our suggestion: Take the time to understand each member’s intentions, motivations and preferred ways of working.

3. Be intentional with your design! A good design starts and ends with the user in mind.

  • Our suggestion: Before coming up with solutions, be curious about what the problem is, why the problem exists and who you are solving the problem for. And if your budget allows, consider engaging a design coach and a mental health coach to support you as you embark on your own journey. We'd be happy to share some recommendations!
